His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-president and Prime Minister of the UAE opened Dubai Water Canal officially on Wednesday, November the 10th.
The grand opening held an astounding show that amazed hundreds of attendees and thousands of viewers all around the world, with fireworks, laser beams and enormous electronic panels that demonstrated the image of Burj Khalifa. The Water Canal is a dream of the late Sheikh Rashif bin Saeed that gladly came to life. As the opening of the water canal revives the Dubai Creek’s original route to Arabian Gulf, and passing through what is now Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid seconds that by believing that this project would have a positive imprint on the environment in Dubai.
The celebrations started with demonstrating a film on the Dubai Water Canal project that explained how this project has always been a culmination of the dream of Sheikh Rashid in 1959 to deepen Dubai Creek to ease marine navigation. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, accompanied with Shaikh Hamdan Deputy Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Maktoum later toured from Jumeirah Bay Island towards the Dubai Water Canal through a boat ride.
The 12 kilometer extension that stretches from Ras Al Khor till the Arabian Gulf, starting from Business Bay and extending to Safa Park, Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah Road to ending in the Arabian Gulf at the Jumeirah Beach Park. With the construction of 5 new pedestrian bridges that include footpaths, running tracks, plazas and interactive screens that overlook the canal; the canal is uniquely constructed to lure tourists and residents to living and enjoying their magical stay in Dubai.
The opening of the Water Canal encouraged the development of several property developments along the canal’s banks. The Canal’s peninsula area, which would be constructed close by Jumeirah Beach Park, is said to feature 60 marinas, 1800+ residential units, 900+ five star luxury rooms and 300+ retail outlets.
The Dubai Water Canal is expected to attract 30 million visitors per year and mark Dubai and make it stand out among international cities.
