Have you already moved into a new home and just started with the dilemma of settling in it? If you have then you’re probably already tired from all the moving process and wish to just lay back and relax; yet we advise you to follow the following steps before you start settling in your new home, in order to avoid having any future difficulties.
First off start with checking all your belongings, and going through your list and making sure that all your furnishings and valuable possessions are all transferred to your new home and that nothing is missing. After going through the list that you had already from before, make sure that all the boxes are transferred to their assigned room. Firstly this would stop with the overwhelming vibes that they give when multiple of unpacked boxes are crammed altogether, and secondly it would prevent you misplacing small objects from the start.
Yet before you start unpacking and settling in there are a few things that should be done to start an easy and smooth process of settling in a new home. For one, if the home you have moved into was not used for a while, or was never ever used, you would most likely find some insects and pests crawling on its floors, or down its walls. Thus going for a pest control inspection services would give you the peace of mind that you would be looking for. It would be preferred if this step is taken care of before you actually move in, as you wouldn’t have to move around any furniture, since everything is still packed and away; and your kids and pets wouldn’t be affected by the chemical pesticides that are sprayed in your new house.
Secondly before moving in, it would be advised if you would be changing the locks of your new real estate property, this ensures your family and yourself included that you’re the only one that has access to your house and your belongings. Since you might already know that during the time that a house is listed for sale or rent, the old homeowner, real estate agent and maybe even the doorman might have a copy of your keys and hence they might all still have access to your current home. Prevent having any unwelcomed or unannounced guests by simply changing the all the locks to your newly owned real estate property.
After this has all been completed cleaning up the house one last time before unpacking would be great. It would simply be a reconfirmation that the house is not only bug free, but also safe enough to have your children and pets go around the house doing whatever they would like, without you having to worry that they would touch or grab anything that’s not clean. Usually this stage doesn’t take that much effort nor time, as the house is still furniture-free and there would be no furniture moving involved. Leading to the next step which is unpacking the boxes in their assigned and new rooms. Unpacking your things in their assigned designated rooms makes everything easier, thus make sure you unpack everything in their correct new rooms and that you double check every item you unpack. As you may need to fix anything as soon as possible whether it’s a scratched vase, or a broken one or even a torn art canvas.
While it may take you days sometimes to settle everything and move everything from one place to another, it’s definitely a major part of your moving process, as this is when you will start feeling that you’re finally settling in and making this place yours. As even though unpacking your things may not take that much time, but hooking up your smart TV to the internet and getting in touch with your cable company to install your new router may definitely take hours, if not days.
Even though now you’re officially settled in your new house, you could involve yourself in a couple more activities that would make this house feel like your new home instead of just your new house. Taking part in any upcoming bake sale in the neighborhood or creating your own housewarming party to get to know your neighbors is the best way to finally feel like you moved into your new home, and not just a new house.
