We were recently in Cairo to meet with clients and listaproperty.com had a great time. We met with clients in Maadi, Heliopolis, Nasr City, Agouza, Dokki and Zamalek. We fell in love with the city and at least one of us is dreaming of buying property in Cairo and, in particular, would love to buy an apartment in Zamalek (just a dream).
Due to its central location, we stayed in Zamalek for a three nights and were smart enough to schedule our trip over a Friday so we had a day off to explore this charming little island in the Nile and a side trip to the Egyptian Museum (but that’s a different blog).
The highlight of the trip was a visit to the fabulous Abou El Sid restaurant. This restaurant is located in an old apartment just off the 26th July street and is like walking back in time. Open a large wooden door from the street and up a flight a flight of stairs and you are back in the days of the Pashas.
The food and décor are Egyptian. I had molokhiyya and chicken. While my Egyptian friend announced it almost as good as his mother’s, his eyes said something else. The menu includes Koshari, stuffed pigeons, fuul, Circasian chicken in walnut sauce and assorted Egyptian specialties.
Because of its amazing Ottoman ambiance, it’s a linger around kind of place. Many customers stay after dinner to enjoy shisha and chat away the evening. It’s so lovely that we admit, we went two nights in a row. Take one look at our photo and we think you will understand why.
